EA launch Origin store to take on Steam

It’s a bad day for Steam fans, or fans of a format peace as opposed to war.

EA has pulled Crysis 2 from Steam’s clasp – disallowing it from selling the game, in favour of an “exclusive” to EA’s own store, named ‘Origin’.

Many had been eagerly awaiting Battlefield 3 opening for pre-order on Steam, but now it looks as if perhaps that won’t ever happen. BF3 is another EA title, and is already up for pre-order on Origin, indicating that EA never intended to allow the major competitor to their new store to sell the game.

This will be of great disappointment to many, as – up until now – Steam has been seen as a neat way to keep everything in one place, with free re-downloads if you buy/build a new PC, or reformat.

If you still wish to live that dream, however, you may have to sacrifice certain titles – specifically those from EA, and perhaps more from other publishers if they gain popularity and pay for exclusives.
