Humax Freeview Plus – Review
It took me a while to decide, but recently I purchased a new PVR. After a lot of thought and deliberation, I eventually decided upon the Humax Freeview Plus 9150T 160GB PVR. And to be frank, for the money, I couldn’t have done much better.

I paid £120.00, this was fresh from my local Argos store, I didn’t mind paying a bit more than online, because after all the deliberation I wanted one soon, and definitely did not want to wait for it to arrive. So yes I acknowledge I could have perhaps received a better deal online.
What do you get?
Well, fresh out of the box, I was given a SCART cable, the power lead, remote and batteries, and the box itself (Along with all the necessary paperwork like the 1 year warranty, and the handy user guide)
This step was quite simple, I cleared a space on my AV rack, placed the box on, with the rear facing myself, then connected the power cord, plugged it in. (Making sure the mains were off just for safety) Then I plugged the SCART lead in firmly into the back of both my TV and my PVR. I then whipped out the Antenna cable from the socket in the TV, plugged it into the back of the PVR. Twisted it round, and I was off. Just tune in the channels like normal, and thats that.
So is it actually any good?
Yes, as I said earlier, I could’ve spent more, to get more, but with budget in mind it is very good. The user interface isn’t top on the list of features and the picture is not as god as it could be, but when you get to know it you overcome the downfalls due to the ease of recording, pausing and rewinding live TV from the remote; making up for any shortfalls.
The 160GB HDD is more than enough for my own home use and the “Picture in Picture” (PIP) function means you can watch two channels at once. Also, the guide and other features are simple and very similar to any other freeview boxes around and is very similar to the one that came integrated to my TV. The remote does feel clumpy, and the looks mean that people can tell it isn’t the best.
But the ease of use is a major highlight, it means you’ll constantly find excuses to use it, and coupled with the plentiful storage it makes the whole purchase worthwhile. I strongly recommend this product and if your in the market for a Freeview STB look out for more humax reviews from me soon.
